EYUC 2019 (Day 8) – the winner takes it all

The last day of European Youth Ultimate Championships 2019 is already here. The days flew by like lightning during this ultimate youth fest. After today’s two final games we know the champions!

If you’ve had a sense of déjà vu, it’s because today’s games were almost the mirror reflections of each other. The Olympic Stadium hosted the finals for Italy and France in u17 and u20 men’s divisions.

?? France 10 – 08 Italy ??

There was a lot of nerves in the beginning of the game. France handled it better and punished Italian mistakes taking an early lead. From that moment the game was mostly played point for point. One of the out-calls nearing the end of the game turned out to be controversial for the audience. Italian player caught the disc so close to the line it was hard to tell if it was in or an out-call. After a moment the situation cleared up, as the players decided to contest the goal. In effect, instead of going to universe point, the game ended in favour for the French, who took the title of the u17 men’s European Youth Champion.

?? Italy 15 – 10 France ??

Throughout the tournament, both Italy and France played spectacular matches. They made a great impression as they advanced up the tournament ladder. Both teams showed good skill and talent as they defeated other teams. In the finals, Italy was in the spotlight. The French gained small lead in the beginning of the game (4-2). Italy scored a break in the last moments of first half, and that was turning point of the game. They started to generate more turns with their athletic defence and breaked 3 times more. France could not close that gap. Italy U20 men’s is back to back European Youth Champion.
