European Youth Ultimate Championships has entered a decisive phase. U20 women’s, U20 men’s and U17 men’s played their quarterfinals today in the morning. U20 mixed and U17 women’s still had to decide, who will get to fight for the medals in remaining pool matches. The atmosphere is heating up, and the spirit of the game is growing stronger. The women pool didn’t have quarterfinals. As a result, the teams played the pool play for the majority of the event. Today’s games at the lower pool cleared things up. We already know who is going to go for the gold and who has to settle for the bronze.

The finals will take place at the Olympic Stadium on Friday at 5 pm.

In the u17 quarterfinals, eight teams were competing with each other. France faced the Netherlands, Germany played with Israel an even game. Italy went up against Sweden, while Belgium had intense fame with Austria.

The semifinals had some exciting teams. France faced Germany in a hard-fought game, where they came out victorious. Italy and Belgium played at the Olympic Stadium a point for point match. Neither of the teams was thinking about letting go of the chance for the championships. In the end, it was Belgium that lost in roller coaster universe point.

quarterfinals
The women’s quarterfinals that took place today were full of the promise of a good game. We’ve had four pairs in the quarterfinals: Czech and Slovenia, Sweden and Germany, France and Great Britain and Austria and Russia.
The most interesting game was old-good friends match up against Czechs and Slovenians. At first, the game was in slight favour of the Czechs and their slowing down defence. The turf field heated up, as the Slovenians started to break at the end of the game. Other games already ended, so there were a lot of fans cheering for both teams. Loud conditions helped Slovenians prevent the universe and score the winning break.

The second part of the day continued with semifinals. France faced Russia in a game full of plot twists. At first, the Russian team was in control as France tried to chase the score. Before the half time was a point for point. In the second part, it was the French who dealt the cards as they gained control over the game. They were more confident while their opponents seemed to lose the will to fight. The game had it all – layouts, hucks and good defence. During the match, both teams had a Spirit Time Out after one of the fouls.
At the Olympic Stadium, another semifinal took place. After a spectacular win over the Czech Republic, Slovenia had to face a phenomenal Sweden. The game was mostly one-sided, earning Sweden a win. Slovenian O line was tired after the hard-fought win against the Czech Republic on hot turf and didn’t manage to stay focused against Swedish zone. Sweden, on the other hand, showed great composure in ofence. Rematch against France in the final will be a treat (in pool play on Monday France won 14-12).

The women finals will take place on Friday at 7 pm at the Olympic Stadium in Wrocław, we are going to see Sweden and France fighting for the title of the u20 women’s Ultimate Frisbee champion.

The mixed division had just seven teams competing for the title of the champion. Today four teams were playing in the semifinals. Latvia faced the Netherlands and Hungary played against Spain. Both games ended with a huge point difference. On the other hand, Latvia and Spain were the two teams, which were the most likely to go to the finals. We are really looking forward to see them compete for the EYUC gold. The Netherlands will play for the bronze against Hungary.

Men’s quarterfinals are here. Let’s find out, who will go for the medals. 4 pairs set up for the quarterfinals were: France vs Czech Republic, Italy vs Sweden, Great Britain vs Poland and Germany vs Belgium.

The 1/4 matchup between Italy and Sweden turned out to be the closest. Sweden led in the early part of the game, scoring with reckless long shots. On the sideline, however, it felt like it was Italy in charge. Italian cheering finally got them fired up at the end of the half when they scored 4 in a row and gained the lead for the first time in the game.
On the next field, Poland was resisting in the game against favourite Great Britain. British athletic defence let them finally break away in the second half.
At the Olympic Stadium Germany faced off Belgium. Everybody expected that game to be the most even of the whole round. The reality was different. Belgium couldn’t get a grip with their offence for the whole half of the game and did not score until 9-1. The game was full of highlights though.

The Germans were on fire on Thursday, but it took the French to stop them from achieving their dreams of playing in the finals. Both teams had great moments. The semifinal was intense and both teams fought till the very end. France managed to make a break, which in the end let them advance to the finals. Team France is built of such talented players that even a strong and skilled team like Germany can’t stop them. That’s how the final poin looked like:
The semifinal at the Olympic Stadium with Great Britain and Italy gathered quite a crowd cheering for the teams. The British were expected to win, but Italy didn’t make it easy for them. The match was filled with spectacular layout and sky’s. The atmosphere at the game was heating up. Near the end of the match, both teams put everything they had, but with a few smart plays, it was Italy who took the victory.
