The women’s quarterfinals that took place today were full of the promise of a good game. We’ve had four pairs in the quarterfinals: Czech and Slovenia, Sweden and Germany, France and Great Britain and Austria and Russia.
The most interesting game was old-good friends match up against Czechs and Slovenians. At first, the game was in slight favour of the Czechs and their slowing down defence. The turf field heated up, as the Slovenians started to break at the end of the game. Other games already ended, so there were a lot of fans cheering for both teams. Loud conditions helped Slovenians prevent the universe and score the winning break.

- Quarterfinal 3: France vs Great Britain 14 – 9

The second part of the day continued with semifinals. France faced Russia in a game full of plot twists. At first, the Russian team was in control as France tried to chase the score. Before the half time was a point for point. In the second part, it was the French who dealt the cards as they gained control over the game. They were more confident while their opponents seemed to lose the will to fight. The game had it all – layouts, hucks and good defence. During the match, both teams had a Spirit Time Out after one of the fouls.
At the Olympic Stadium, another semifinal took place. After a spectacular win over the Czech Republic, Slovenia had to face a phenomenal Sweden. The game was mostly one-sided, earning Sweden a win. Slovenian O line was tired after the hard-fought win against the Czech Republic on hot turf and didn’t manage to stay focused against Swedish zone. Sweden, on the other hand, showed great composure in ofence. Rematch against France in the final will be a treat (in pool play on Monday France won 14-12).
